Earlier this year I went to the annual Venice Carnival in Italy. Held in February it is often billed as a carnival for the Venetians. It lacks the big crowds of the summer months and features hundreds of participants dressed in flamboyant outfits and masks.
For a few days Venice turns back the clock with an event that has existed in the current format for hundreds of years. It's a photographers dream and all the participants happily pose in the wonderful surroundings of St Mark's Square and the surrounding alleyways.
