Cleveland Clinic is a newly built hospital just across the street from my office in Abu Dhabi.
Designed by HDR of Nebraska it is heavily informed by traditional Gulf architecture.
I like this building because it shows design out here has moved on from the endless sails and wind towers of the nineties. It's sandstone coloured cladding and random fenestration is informed by the old walled cities of the area. The oversailing blocks and voids echo the old souqs of Jerusalem and Saana.
It's a stylish start to the development of Al Maryah Island which will become Abu Dhabi's financial heart.
